Do You Ever Feel...
Do you ever feel like you just can't seem to find God? You KNOW He is there, but you just can't seem to connect? You read the Word and it feels dry and you just can't focus on it?
I do sometimes and it really sends me into a spin. It makes everything in life seem out of focus and kind of hopeless. I mean, if I can't find God what good is trying to do anything, right? Well, today's chapter of Matthew gave me a promise that I have read many times but didn't really connect with except to say, "yeah, I know that".
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8
This verse just hit me. This is the promise I need to remember during those times! Not the footprints poem, it is good, but it's only a poem. I need to cling to this promise from the Word! The Lord promises us that if we seek Him we will find Him! Isn't that wonderful?!
In my personal experience, I can't really predict when those lonely moments are going to be. So what I am going to do is print this verse out and put it in my household notebook, tack it up over the sink and near the bathroom mirror, maybe even add the verse to the top of my printed devotional pages in my notebook. The next time a far away season arrives I will cling to the promise that I will find Him and life will not lose it's hope or meaning.

We are conditioned in our society to need an emotional response.
That is why people fall in and out of love. That is why people impulse purchase things and get into HUGE debt for things they do not even need or use. That is why people use their expensive excercise equipment to hang their laundry from and they can't seem to hang things on hangers. (Laundry does not elicit any excitement... it is boring!)
We are an instant society... we cannot even measure things are self, but will spend extra money on pre-measured packets of things. We become impatient in a drive-through line of a fast food restaurant! We expect instant gratification and we want it NOW!
All this to say, with all of this brain-washing... we think that if we do not FEEL God, then He is not there! If we do not WEEP, then we are not being changed.
In reality, there are seasons for each thing. Just as there is a time and place to grab a quick bite at McDonalds, there is a time and a place for a carefully planned holiday banquet complete with color coordinated linens and centerpiece!
God WILL move in your heart as you trust HIM and not the FEELINGS. God IS effective and LIVING in YOUR LIFE... It is apparent by YOUR desire to serve, love and know HIM. If He were not working in you, you could not write with such clarity and passion in your blogs!
God is faithful to each of us, but in HIS WAY and in HIS TIME... He truely makes ALL things beautiful.
Plus, I once read a journal entry on MOMYS (can't remember who wrote it right now), but one sentence stuck with me: "The dryest wood catches fire fastest". I may be misquoting a bit, but the point still remains! Especially when you feel "disconnected" (and I can DEFINITELY relate to that)... when you perservere and continue to trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your OWN UNDERSTANDING (i.e. understanding of HOW it should FEEL)... ACKNOWLEDGE HIM IN ALL YOUR WAYS and HE WILL DIRECT YOUR PATHS!!!
The first sentence in the third paragraph of my comment SHOULD say ...we cannot even measure things ourselves... not are self! Duh to ME!!! LOL~
Well said! And I make those mistakes all the time. Backspace and delete are my best friends! grin!
